Jenday Conure for Sale

Jenday Conure for Sale, the Jenday Conure is quite striking with its beautiful colors. They are closely related to the Sun Conure Aratinga solstitialis and the Golden-capped Conure Aratinga auricapilla. Sometimes there is confusion between the Jenday Conure and the Sun Conure but you can easily identify the Jenday by its green wings and back, while the Sun has mostly yellow wings.

A super sweet bird, the attractive Jenday Conure is very sociable and makes a very tame and loveable companion. They love to “talk”, and yes, they are rather noisy little creatures. Being very active, they enjoy playing with toys, climbing, and chewing. Their antics can be very comical and at the same time they are very affectionate.

If you are looking for a beautiful conure, the Jenday Conure will certainly capture your attention. It is also much less costly than the Golden Conure or the Queen of Bavaria Conure, two conures which are often touted for their beauty.

Housing a Jenday Conure

Bird Cages:
Jenday conures love roomy cages! A cage best suited for a conure must be large enough that the tail does not touch the bottom, and the bird has enough room for unrestricted movements.
For a small size conure, a minimum of 24″x16″x20″ (60 x 40 x 50 cm), and for the larger species, a minimum of 44″x26″x40″ (120 x 65 x 100 cm). This will provide room for both horizontal exercise and vertical climbing.

Bird Perch:
Provide two Perches, sized between 3/4″ to 1″ (2 – 2.5 cm). Place one up high for roosting and one low by the food, water, and gravel dishes. Natural perches from willow, poplar and fruit trees are good for the bird’s feet and for it’s beak. The gnawing it will do on the perches will also alleviate your pet’s boredom.

Where to Place Conure Cages:
Place the cage where it will be away from harmful fumes and drafts. To provide you pet with a sense of security, you can cover the cage at night.

Aviary:
An indoor aviary is a cage set up in a room. A bird room is an inside aviary with sand or corn cob covering a tiled floor. An outdoor or breeding aviary needs to have a protected shelter that can be heated and cooled where necessary. The ideal size of an aviary is a length which is 10 times the length of the bird and a width and height of 6′ (2m).

Maintenance

The basic cage care includes daily cleaning of the water and food dishes. Weekly you should wash all the perches and dirty toys. The floor should be lined with newspaper and changed daily, or covered with an absorbent bedding such as corn cobs or pine shavings and changed weekly. A total hosing down and disinfecting of an aviary should be done yearly, replacing anything that needs to be freshened, such as old dishes, toys and perches.

Breeding/Reproduction of Jenday Conures

They breed readily if they have the right size aviary. Though these birds will need to be either DNA or surgically sexed for a certain determination, the iris of the female is light brown and they have a grayish white eye ring while the male’s iris is darker and his eye ring is pure white.
The hen lays three to four eggs which are incubated for about 26 days. Both parents will feed the young. The young fledge (leave the nest) after about two months. The ideal nest box size should be 21 1/2″ x 10″ x 11″ (55x25x28 cm), with a 2 3/4″ opening (7 cm) which the parents will chew on and alter it to their liking.

Caring For a Jenday Conure

A temperature of 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for your Jenday. You should make the cage as large as possible, with a minimum dimension of 24x24x30 inches and 1/2 inch bar spacing. A large cage will help you provide sufficient exercise for your bird and keep it healthy. Cutting your bird’s nails may be unnecessary if you have some rough or cement perches high in the cage.

Jenday Conure (for Sale) will thrive on a well-balanced diet of pellets and seeds, with fresh fruits and vegetables thrown in for good measure. Kiwi, apples, carrots, and broccoli are among the favorite fresh foods.

These birds can molt up to four times per year, and the process can be uncomfortable. Bathe them on a regular basis and spritz them with a spray bottle to assist them get through this period. They enjoy bathing at any time of year. Here’s a video of someone doing just that.

Jenday conures, like all conures, are notorious chewers who require a variety of wooden toys and branches to satisfy their chewing desires. Indestructible toys, such as those made of acrylic, lava, and hard plastic, are also good, but should account for a lesser proportion of the toys available. A play gym and play stand, especially one with places to hang rope and toys, are essential for this energetic bird. Finally, a sturdy swing constructed of durable material is an excellent addition to the Jenday environment.

Personality and Behavior

The Jenday is a playful cuddler who makes an excellent family pet, bonding with everyone in the house. This is a trusting bird that is bright enough to learn simple tricks and can learn to communicate, though it is not known to be a very skilled talker.
This bird’s best quality is its strong attachment for its humans. This is a bird that is perfectly satisfied to spend the entire day on its owners shoulder, cuddling up to its owner’s neck. Handfed Jendays, on the other hand, are not known to become nippy and can retain a deep attachment with their owner throughout the course of their 30-year lifespan.

Temperament

Naturally playful and affectionate, jenday conures can make loyal companion birds. Some jendays may become attached to a single person, but a majority should do well with a family unit and accept everyone as members of their flock.

Jendays can be very cuddly, often enjoying a ride on their handler’s shoulder or inside their shirt. You will also find that they generally love to be petted and will bow their head when it’s time for some affection.
